Renovation of the Traditional Polirizos Restaurant
About the project
The project involved the renovation of the Polirizos Restaurant in Rodakino, Crete. The works included new infrastructure, the creation of a two-level unified space, ceiling redesign with hidden lighting, the central fireplace, wooden constructions, a symbolic facade design, and the renovation of restrooms.
The Challenge
The Polirizos Hotel in Rodakino includes a traditional restaurant that is a central part of its hospitality experience. The family that runs both the restaurant and the hotel continues to cook and personally welcome guests, making the place truly unique.
Initially, they approached our firm for the renovation of the restaurant, and later for the rest of the hotel. The challenge was to refresh the space so that it would radiate warmth and authenticity while meeting all modern standards of comfort and functionality.
Our Approach
Unified Space with New Layout
We created a unified space developed on two different levels, separated by the floor, to offer a more dynamic flow and flexibility in use.
Central Feature – The Fireplace
A fireplace was designed and highlighted as the central element of the restaurant, organising the space around two main axes.
Infrastructure & Ceiling Design
We upgraded all infrastructures, including fire safety, electrical, and plumbing installations. The ceiling was redesigned with plasterboard false ceilings incorporating hidden lighting, as well as heating and cooling systems—combining aesthetics with functionality.
Traditional Identity & Warm Atmosphere
The traditional furniture was preserved, while the atmosphere was enhanced with wooden constructions of horizontal elements, adding warmth and character to the space.
Facade & Symbolism
The restaurant’s facade was enriched with a laser-engraved wave motif symbolising the “root,” a reference to local tradition and the philosophy of the hotel.
Renovation of Restrooms
The renovation also included the restaurant’s bathrooms, ensuring they are modern and comfortable for guests.
The Result
The renovation of the Polirizos Restaurant upgraded the space while preserving its traditional identity. Today, it offers visitors a unique dining experience that combines authenticity with modern comfort, continuing to be the heart of the hotel’s hospitality.
