Conversion of 5 Studios into a Modern Family Apartment
About the project
This renovation concerns an entire floor of a building in Heraklion, Crete, which was transformed from five individual studio apartments into a single three-bedroom residence. The project involved changing the use from commercial to residential, a complete reconfiguration of the interior layout, as well as energy upgrades and a modern interior design tailored to the needs of a large family.
The Challenge
The project involved renovating a floor that originally consisted of five independent studios for rent in a building designed and built by our firm in 2000. In 2025, the owners entrusted us once again with the project—this time, to convert the floor from commercial use into a single, unified residence.
Our Approach
From Commercial to Residential
We undertook the full regulatory approval process and small-scale building permit, carefully studying the existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure to ensure it was optimally adapted for the new residential use.
New Interior Layout
The space was completely redesigned: from five individual studios, we created a three-bedroom home with two bathrooms, a storage room, laundry area, dressing room, and a living room with a fireplace.
The new layout was designed to fully meet the needs of a large family, ensuring comfort and functionality in every space.
Energy Upgrade
The project includes new energy-efficient windows, external thermal insulation, and a heat pump system, providing excellent energy performance and year-round thermal comfort.
Interior Design
The design follows clean, modern lines, featuring marble-effect ceramic tiles running continuously through the interior, combined with wooden textures and soft grey tones.
False ceilings were added to accommodate lighting scenarios and integrate heating and cooling systems, offering a refined, elegant, and cohesive aesthetic.
The Result
The project is currently in progress, with completion expected within the year.
The renovated apartment will become a modern, energy-efficient home of high aesthetic value, perfectly adapted to the family’s lifestyle, another example of our long-term relationships of trust with our clients.
