OUR PROJECTS

Design of Two Contemporary Houses on a Corner Plot

About the project

This architectural study focuses on the design of two contemporary houses on a corner plot, originally developed as a single property and later subdivided into two independent plots. Each house responds to the needs of a different family, aiming to create two autonomous homes with a clear architectural identity and a high quality of living.

The houses take the form of side-by-side maisonettes, carefully positioned to ensure full functional and constructional independence, while forming a coherent architectural ensemble.

The Challenge

The primary challenge of the project was organising access to the street, while providing independent vehicular access to each residence’s basement parking directly from the road. At the same time, the design needed to maximise the potential of the corner plot without compromising privacy or usability.

Beyond the spatial constraints, the project required a strong architectural response. The two houses had to coexist harmoniously, while maintaining distinct identities and individual character.

Our Approach

Two houses with distinct architectural expression

Although both houses follow a similar functional layout, the design introduces two different architectural expressions, both in volumetric composition and formal language.

One house features curved lines and a more fluid form, while the other adopts a stricter, geometric approach. This deliberate contrast creates visual interest while preserving balance and cohesion across the development.

A palette of earth-toned materials, combined with large glazed surfaces, reinforces the contemporary character and highlights the strong volumetric presence of each building.

Functional organisation and autonomy

Each residence develops across three clearly defined levels:

  • Basement, accommodating an independent garage and storage areas
  • Ground floor, hosting the living spaces with direct access to a private courtyard
  • First floor, where the bedrooms are located

Private courtyards and terraces strengthen the relationship between interior and exterior spaces. The use of external thermal insulation improves energy performance and overall comfort.

Both houses extend to the roof level, where the staircase core leads to a pergola, creating an additional outdoor living area and ensuring the full use of all interior and exterior spaces.

The Result

The project delivers two contemporary, fully independent houses that take full advantage of the corner plot. Clear access strategies, separate basement levels, and distinct architectural identities come together to form a development defined by high-quality living and modern architectural character.
